Instructor

Prof. Maryam Majedi She/Her

Maryam Majedi is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Computer Science department at UCSB. Her research focus is Embedded Ethics and Data Privacy and exploring the intersection of computer science and ethical considerations, aiming to develop modules that facilitate the integration of ethics and data privacy principles into computer science education.

Teaching Assistants

Brandon Bu he/him/his

Hi, everyone! My name is Brandon and I am a second-year Master’s student in Computer Science, specializing in Machine Learning. I previously interned as a Software Engineer at HUAWEI. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music and cooking.

I am excited to be working with you all and look forward to helping you succeed in this course. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Gyuwan Kim He/Him/His

Hello, students! I am a third-year Ph.D. student in the CS department. My main research area is machine learning for natural language processing. I had industrial experience before starting my Ph.D. study. I started learning how to program when I was an elementary school student, and I am still learning. :)

I am happy to take any questions or concerns you may have while taking this course, so feel free to contact me if you need any help. I will try my best to assist you together with the instructor and other TAs to learn as much as possible through the course.

Jacky Guo he/him/his

Hi, I'm Jacky, a second-year M.S. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, specializing in communication and robotics. My programming experience dates back to my freshman year for embedded system design. Even though coming from a different background, I believe it gives me a unique perspective on programming and algorithm analysis. I'm excited to be a TA for this course and more than happy to answer your questions and concerns regarding it. Feel free to contact me via email or Piazza at any time. I'm looking forward to meeting with all of you.

Yeganeh Aghamohammadibonab she/her

Hi folks! My name is Yeganeh (feel free to call me Yegi), I’m a Ph.D. student in computer science with a focus on computer architecture. Before joining UCSB, I received my master’s in computer engineering and worked independently on hardware security from a logic locking approach. I started learning programming languages seriously in the senior year of my bachelor’s studies when I was a physics student. I enjoy coding with python as it’s more of a language than a programming language to me! Please feel free to reach out for your questions during the office hours or in the course’s online platform. I will try my best to answer your questions comprehensively.

Zeyu(Zoey) Wang she/her

Hi, everyone! I am a second-year master’s student in the CS department. My one-year work experience as a software development engineer has given me hands-on experience in developing and maintaining mobile applications.

I’m here to help you with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your coursework or the industries related to computer science. If you need assistance or guidance, don’t hesitate to contact me through Piazza or email. I’m looking forward to starting this incredible journey in coding with you all and supporting you along the way.

Undergraduate Learning Assistants

Edward Ding he/him

Hey CMPSC 16 students! My name is Edward and I’m a second year Computer Engineering student from Pleasanton, CA in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was first introduced to programming from my involvement in robotics in high school (go AVBotz!) and I’ve never really stopped coding since. In my free time, I like to stay up to date on current events, cook for my family and listen to indie music. I’m also a huge data nerd; some of my past hobby projects have included elections modeling/mapping and data visualization. Please feel free to reach out to me if you want to talk about anything at all - I love to meet new people. I’m really excited to serve as one of your ULAs this quarter.

Justin Chung he/him

Hi all! I’m a third year CS student from SoCal. Though this is my first time ULAing for a class, I have lots of experience teaching computer science to primary and secondary school kids, so I’ll try my best to help everyone succeed. I enjoy snowboarding and discovering music in my free time, so whether you’d like to talk about those or ask any questions related to the course, don’t hesitate to reach out! Looking forward to assisting you all.

Sanjana Shankar She/her

Hi everyone! My name is Sanjana Shankar and I am a third year undergraduate student majoring in Computer Science! This will be my first time being a ULA for a CS course in person and I am so excited to work with all of you and guide you all while you guys begin your journey in your computer science careers! I remember programming being really overwhelming when I first started coding in middle school but I will be there to provide you guys with some tips and tricks to make sure C++ becomes a language that you all will become comfortable programming in. Fun fact: My favorite programming language when I was a freshman at UCSB was C++ but now it has recently changed to Python! Please feel free to reach out to ask me questions about anything! I am looking forward to meeting you all and working with you all during this quarter!

Tianle(Tyler) Yu he/him

Hi, everyone! I am a third-year undergrad student in the CS major. I love working with computers and helping others with software or hardware problems. It’s my great pleasure to help you with any course-related materials. I developed web apps as my hobby and greatly enjoyed working with Linux servers (so please feel free to ask me any questions regarding programming or using Linux systems). Looking forward to meeting you all!
